How Are You Wired?

“Go to a coffee shop. Sit by the bar with the glass windows and look around. Look at all the people running to catch a train. All the girls with one too many shopping bags. All the couples too in love to care. Then you’ll see it-a bit of yourself in everyone. And somehow, sitting alone in a coffee shop had never felt so good.” 


Good morning! Life should be lived by going away from the regular routines, so for the week, I have returned to Columbia, South Carolina and have refused to go to my usual places. I have made a list of new shops, cafes, and local places I wanted to go and can’t wait to share them with you!

This morning, the sun is peaking through the rain clouds and the breeze is perfect. I am sitting on the porch of the Wired Goat, a coffee shop that is tucked away from the city and is one of the most interesting cafes i’ve been to. I absolutely love it. As I sit outside gripping my latte and finishing up my oatmeal (which they made with homemade almond milk, yum!) I’m pondering how this unique store came up with their name. How did they make their recipes or share their passions, their life, in just one coffee shop?


The quote above has been sitting on my phone screen for over a week now and I can’t stop smiling at the fact that we can find bits of ourselves in other people. How could this be? Well, we all wake up with beating hearts, a working mind, mobile hands, and a purpose. Like many, my purpose is to stop and get my coffee in the morning. I have mentioned before that coffee shops house some of the most unique, loving, important, and carefree conversations. You might like tea, water or not even a drink in the morning, but we all need something to wire our brains. This leaves me with this question today, how are you wired? 

“The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out” (Proverbs 20:5)

Coffee isn’t the only thing that gets me up in the morning, but it’s the realization that other people are waking up today as well. Not just me, others! Are we wiring our minds in a way that’s controlling, overwhelming, or in our way, perfect? I am guilty of this because I don’t always have the time to pause on the deck of a coffee shop, smile and soak in the sunshine, nope that’s not always the case. Even in the hustle and bustle of the day, other people are most likely to be in the same boat you are in so share your stresses for the day if needed, pray for peace and realize that you have a purpose and so does the person next to you.

That deadline this week won’t define you. If you made plans with someone, don’t cancel them because you are tired because that person, who has emotions wired in them just like you, might need you. Offer a helping hand or buy someone’s coffee in the line before you. We won’t always know the answer, but if you can see your wonderful self in others, draw out love for them and find what makes them unique because you definitely are.

I often blog thinking, how am I feeling, but I should really be thinking, how are others feeling? We all have to work together to make things happen. That is why God created man and women. That is why he made you.
